A good few weeks working on the back-end: 1) Youhere should be 100% daylight savings time ready, and 2) We removed more data-flow bottlenecks routing check-ins and pulling rosters. Youhere should seem faster and snappier now (even more improvements relative to our July 23rd blog entry).

February 1, 2026 - Beacons
We're hearing of excellent attendance taking performance with our beacons. It works well with all phones, in any environment (i.e. deep in buildings, or in large lecture halls). Setting a beacon in your place of attendance definitely helps with the "iffy" nature of a phone's indoor location abilities.
January 8, 2026 - LMS (Canvas, etc.) gradebook syncing
For those of you using an LMS (Canvas, etc.): we made a bunch of fixes to our sync tool, which can insert your attendance records into your LMS gradebook. Basically, within your LMS, make an 'assignment' for attendance. Then download your gradebook to a CSV and paste it into the sync utility on Youhere. Youhere will insert the attendance scores into the proper column in the CSV file. To finish, upload the new CSV file back into your LMS gradebook, and you'll be all set.
December 11, 2025 - Helping a new customer with a check-in beacon

Keep in mind if you're considering using Youhere, and need permission from your school's admin: We have all of our documention (VPAT, GDPR, TOS, right to delete, etc.) under the "Privacy" tab in the top header. They're all up to date.
September 18, 2025 - Schools are back in session
Good to be nice and busy, with schools back in full swing (i.e. summer is over--at least in the northern hemisphere!). Seeing very busy check-in days on our end.
August 25, 2025 - Thoughts on class attendance
We saw this article on attendance in college: https://archive.md/zJ8xk/. Similar theme as Youhere: 1) imperfect at indoor locations (some manual attendance will be needed) for purely location-based attendance (note: our beacon fixes this!) 2) They use an iClicker (another gadget to buy ☹️), while we use an app on their phones (a device students already have).
July 23, 2025 - Turbo Youhere?
We optimized some of our logic in the data-flow to our servers that happens when someone checks-in using the app. The result is that Youhere is much faster. Those checking in should have quicker and snappier experience. If you're the admin of a group, your check-in rosters will load faster too.
June 8, 2025 - New app update is out
A updated version of our check-in app is now available in both the Apple App and Google Play stores (that is, for iOS and Android). The app is "Version 3.8" and has an updated UI, plus its back-end was rebuilt with the latest and most secure development libraries. (Phone are typically auto-updated, so there's nothing anyone needs to in order to upgrade.)

We've been conducting tests of our beacon vs. GPS modes for verifying presence at check-in. Based on the results, we've made some updates to our site, emphasizing that our beacon is the most reliable mode for accurate check-ins with indoor locations. A phone’s location abilities---using GPS, cell towers, and local WiFi signals—--just aren’t precise enough for indoor check-ins. They will work to some extent (and we encourage you to give it a try at your location), but keep in mind that for 5-10% of your group, phones might show them as being "too far away" to check in.

FYI: Beacons broadcast an Bluetooth signal that those checking-in need to be near, in order to check-in successfully. See this page.

Found on reddit.com/r/professors (here):I use YouHere for my 100+ student classes. It was designed by a physics prof for outdoor labs. You set the GPS checkin as well as the radius of the checkin area. You can also set specific/separate times for checking in and out. I, personally, love it, and it is well worth the $100/year cost (which my department covers as multiple profs are now using it). It doesn’t integrate with any lms as far as I am aware but it is really simple and user friendly.Editor's note: Youhere will integrate with your LMS. Just export your gradebook into a CSV file with a column for 'attendance.' Youhere will insert your latest check-in numbers into this column. Then re-upload the CSV into the LMS. Works great with Canvas.
May 3, 2024 - Plan for use
We were chatting with a (college) teacher using Youhere for attendance in their class. Their attendance plan works like this:I have my students check-in at any time during the first 10-minutes of every class. At the end of the term, I "curve" my attendance grade based on the maximum number of check-ins found. Everyone's "attendance grade" is scaled based on this maximum being 100%. Luckily for me, there's always a few students who attend every class!

They said:Works really well for taking attendance. For classes, sports teams, can also do location based entries. Works really well, would definitely recommend. You can then download an excel sheet for tracking.
March 28, 2024 - New beacons
Some of you may have noticed on our beacon page that we're awaiting production of "version 2" of our Bluetooth attendance beacon. We just got a set of 5 boards for testing today, and so far so good. The internal console (for setting the beacon name and broadcast power) is much much better, and the board is based on an entirely different Bluetooth chipset. This is good news, meaning version 2 should be available by this summer.
